Melanoma has the highest metastatic potential of all skin cancers.8 Like other aggressive cancers, it has the ability to activate immune checkpoints to escape immune system surveillance and attack.8 However, the development of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has revolutionized the treatment of cutaneous melanoma. This activity will address current challenges in the clinical management of cutaneous melanoma and provide clinicians with knowledge of diagnosis guidelines, consistent tumor staging, current treatment guidelines, recent clinical trial data, and evidence-based strategies to manage irAEs.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the pathophysiology, clinical and histologic presentation, diagnostic guidelines, and staging criteria of cutaneous melanoma
Evaluate treatment strategies based on evolving data and recommendations associated with immunotherapies to treat different stages of cutaneous melanoma
Identify evidence-based and multidisciplinary strategies to address irAEs in patients receiving immunotherapy
