The treatment of CLE continues to evolve, with multiple novel therapies being studied and others already approved for SLE that have been shown to be efficacious for the cutaneous manifestations of SLE. Clinicians must be aware of how to diagnose CLE in addition to being familiar with both the standard of care medications and the emerging therapies, so that they may make optimal treatment choices for each individual patient. Dermatologists and other clinicians who care for patients with CLE will benefit from the latest information in order to optimize outcomes for patients.
