Mital Patel-Cohen, MD is part of Summit Medical Group’s Dermatology department. Dr. Patel-Cohen is a highly experienced dermatologist who has dedicated her career to high quality patient care, clinical innovation, and research in auto-inflammatory diseases. Her areas of expertise include complex medical dermatology and cosmetic dermatology (lasers, fillers, neuromodulators). Dr. Patel-Cohen is a widely respected national expert in the areas of psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa and has made countless contributions to research by publishing over twenty papers in major dermatology journals. She has been an invited speaker at numerous local, regional, national and international meetings. Additionally, she has directed several sessions at the American Academy of Dermatology and has served as a Co-Director for the Interdisciplinary Autoimmune Summit.
Dr. Patel-Cohen completed her internship at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, followed by a dermatology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She served as Chief Resident of her program and was voted Resident of the Year at King's County Hospital. After residency, she completed a fellowship in Dermatology-Rheumatology at Brigham and Women's Medical Center followed by The Rabkin Fellowship in Medical Education at the Shapiro Institute for Education and Research at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Prior to joining Summit Medical Group, Dr. Patel-Cohen was an attending physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. While at Harvard Medical School, she helped to develop the new and innovative pathway curriculum for first and second year medical students. She was the founder and director of Brigham and Women's Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Neutrophilic Dermatoses Clinic and their Dermatology-Gastroenterology multidisciplinary clinic. She also served as the assistant program director for the dermatology-rheumatology fellowship, which allowed her to mentor and train numerous dermatology residents and fellows. Additionally, she spent considerable time teaching dermatology residents surgery, cosmetic lasers, and injections.
When she is not working, Dr. Patel-Cohen enjoys traveling, reading for pleasure, running and most importantly spending time with her friends and family.
